WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-9) today announced St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital was awarded two federal grants from the National Cancer Institute (NCI) worth more than $3.2 million for research.
“St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital is one of the best research hospitals in the country,” said Congressman Cohen. “These new federal funds will help ensure St. Jude continues to provide our children with the best care possible.”
The first grant – worth $1,731,842 – will be used to research the racial disparities in childhood leukemia. The second grant – worth $1,573,220 – will be used to study the genetic classes of cancers that children acquire for the development of improved therapies.
NCI is part of the National Institutes of Health, which is one of 11 agencies that compose the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. NCI was established under the National Cancer Institute Act of 1937 and is the Federal Government's principal agency for cancer research and training.
