Cohen Announces More Than $400K for Cancer Treatment Research at St. Jude Children's Hospital
WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Congressman Steve Cohen (D-TN-09) today announced that St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital was awarded more than $400,000 for cancer treatment research by the National Cancer Institute (NCI).
“St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital has been a pioneer in providing its patients with high quality care for years,” said Congressman Cohen. “These new federal funds will enable the Hospital to continue to invest in forward-thinking cancer research that benefits our children.”
NCI awarded the Hospital $411,104 to study organic cation transporter 2 and cisplatin nephrotoxicity. The interplay of these anticancer agents could provide great potential in the treatment of cancerous solid tumors. NCI is part of the National Institutes of Health, which is one of 11 agencies that compose the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). The NCI, established under the National Cancer Institute Act of 1937, is the Federal Government's principal agency for cancer research and training.
