February 8, 2011

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-9) today announced the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has awarded St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital $434,896 for allergy, immunology and transplantation research. The federal funds will be distributed through the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID).

“St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital is one of the best research hospitals in the country and provides a valuable service to our children and community,” said Congressman Cohen. “These new federal funds will help ensure St. Jude doctors and scientists continue to provide our children with the best care possible.”

NIAID conducts and supports basic and applied research to better understand, treat, and ultimately prevent infectious, immunologic, and allergic diseases. For more than 60 years, NIAID research has led to new therapies, vaccines, diagnostic tests, and other technologies that have improved the health of millions of people in the United States and around the world.
