September 9, 2015

[MEMPHIS, TN] – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today announced a $759,476 federal grant for Drug Court, Juvenile Court, and Veterans’ Court projects in Shelby County. This funding comes through the U.S. Department of Justice’s (DOJ) Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) grant program and is aimed at reducing recidivism, improving court security, addressing substance abuse, and improving other reintegration-related issues.

“This funding will help fight recidivism, substance abuse, and mental health issues in Shelby County,” said Congressman Cohen.

The JAG program awards grants to fund a wide of range of programs by state and local justice departments. The seven categories for which a JAG can be used are law enforcement programs, prosecution and court programs, prevention and education programs, corrections and community corrections programs, drug treatment and enforcement programs, planning, evaluation, and technology improvement programs, and crime victims and witness programs.
