Cohen Announces Nearly $400K for Research at St. Jude
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Steve Cohen (D-TN-9) today announced that the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has awarded St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital a federal grant worth $393,750 for research into the role Coenzyme A plays in the regulation of human metabolism. The award will be distributed by the National Institute of General Medical Sciences (NIGMS).
“St. Jude continues to make contributions large and small to the growing body of scientific and medical knowledge,” said Congressman Cohen. “These new federal funds will give the researchers and doctors at St. Jude the funding they need to expand our knowledge of the human body, which can then be used to improve our health and quality of life.”
NIGMS is one of the Institutes of the National Institute of Health (NIH), which is a division of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. NIGMS’ mission is to lay the groundwork for advances in disease diagnosis, treatment, and prevention by supporting research that increases our understanding of basic life processes. Their research mandate includes a wide variety of fields including biophysics, genetics, developmental biology, pharmacology, physiology, and biochemistry.
