Cohen Awarded with Highest Grade for a Tennessee Lawmaker for His Efforts to Promote International Cooperation
[WASHINGTON, DC] – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) received an A+, the highest grade awarded to any member of Tennessee’s Congressional Delegation, in the Global Solutions Action Network’s 2014 Congressional Report Card, which measures how legislators voted on issues that affect the United Nations, the proliferation of nuclear weapons, the global environment, global health, and other international issues. Congressman Cohen also received extra credit for his proposal to promote renewable energy and reduce nuclear weapons in America.
“It is an honor to be recognized by the Global Solutions Action Network for my work promoting international stability and peaceful relations between nations,” said Congressman Cohen. “I will continue to be a steadfast advocate for international cooperation, improving health around the world, and protecting our environment.”
In addition being recognized by the Global Solutions Action Network, Congressman Cohen was recently re-appointed by Speaker of the House John Boehner to serve on the Commission on Security and Cooperation in Europe, also known as the Helsinki Commission. The Commission is an independent U.S. Government agency created in 1976 to monitor and encourage compliance with the Helsinki Final Act and other Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) commitments in 57 participating States across Europe, Central Asia and North America.
“It is a privilege and an honor to serve on the Helsinki Commission,” said Congressman Cohen. “The Commission has a long influential history when it comes to international affairs, human rights and promoting democracy.
