Cohen Awarded With League Of Conservation Voters’ Highest Grade For A Tennessee Lawmaker

March 11, 2015

[MEMPHIS, TN] – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) received the highest grade, 97%, awarded to a member of Tennessee’s Congressional Delegation by the League of Conservation Voters (LCV) for their 2014 votes. Congressman Cohen’s grade far exceeds the 43% average score of the entire Tennessee delegation to the U.S. House of Representatives.

“It is an honor to be recognized by the League of Conservation Voters for my record on the environment,” said Congressman Cohen. “If we are going to improve the air we breathe, the water we drink and preserve our environment for future generations, we must treat our planet with the care it deserves. Doing so will also help reduce our dependence on foreign oil, lower energy costs for American families and small businesses, and establish a clean energy economy that will help create green jobs across the country.”

The LCV’s National Environmental Scorecard scored 35 different votes to provide objective, factual information about the most important environmental legislation considered and the corresponding voting records of all members. The Scorecard represents the consensus of experts from about 20 respected environmental and conservation organizations who select the key votes on which members of Congress should be scored. LCV scores votes on the most important issues each year, including energy, global warming, public health, public lands and wildlife conservation, and spending for environmental programs.
