Cohen Awarded with League of Conservation Voters' Highest Grade for a Tennessee Lawmaker

February 20, 2014

[WASHINGTON, DC] – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) received the highest grade awarded to a member of Tennessee’s Congressional Delegation by the League of Conservation Voters (LCV) in 2013. In the 28 votes that the LCV’s 2013 National Environmental Scorecard graded, Congressman Cohen did not vote against the pro-environment position once, and his grade of 96% far exceeds the 23% average score of the entire Tennessee delegation.

“It is an honor to be recognized by the League of Conservation Voters for my record on the environment,” said Congressman Cohen. “If we are going to improve the air we breathe, the water we drink and preserve our environment for future generations, we must treat our planet with the care it deserves. Doing so will also help reduce our dependence on foreign oil, lower energy costs for American families and small businesses, and establish a clean energy economy that will help create green jobs across the country.”

The LCV’s National Environmental Scorecard provides objective, factual information about the most important environmental legislation considered and the corresponding voting records of all members. The Scorecard represents the consensus of experts from about 20 respected environmental and conservation organizations who select the key votes on which members of Congress should be scored. LCV scores votes on the most important issues each year, including energy, global warming, public health, public lands and wildlife conservation, and spending for environmental programs.
