January 31, 2014

[WASHINGTON, DC] – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) was awarded with a 100 percent voting record in 2013 by the Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights (LCCHR). The LCCHR’s 2013 Voting Record grades Members of Congress on votes cast on 13 civil and human rights bills considered in the first session of the 113th Congress.

“I have great respect for and enjoy working with Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights President Wade Henderson as well as the entire coalition, and it is an honor to be recognized by it for my record defending and advancing civil and human rights,” said Congressman Cohen. “Throughout my career, I have consistently fought to further the cause of justice and ensure everyone is treated fairly. Human rights and civil rights should not be partisan issues, and I will continue working with my colleagues in Congress to advance these critically important issues at home and abroad.”

The LCCHR is a coalition charged by its diverse membership to promote and protect the civil and human rights of all persons in the United States. The LCCHR works to build a more fair and just America. The 13 votes selected for inclusion in the group’s 2013 report ranged from protecting workers’ civil rights by opposing the elimination of prevailing wage requirements to protecting vulnerable Americans from hunger by opposing $40 billion crippling cuts to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP).
