Cohen Commemorates 12th Anniversary of September 11th Terrorist Attacks

September 11, 2013

[WASHINGTON, DC] –Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today issued the following statement on the 12th anniversary of the deadly terrorist attacks of September 11th, 2001:

“September 11th is a day for each and every one of us to take time to reflect on the heroism of firefighters, policemen, and first responders from across the nation, thank those who continue the fight to keep us safe, and honor the victims of the awful terrorist attacks of 9/11. Memphians in particular should remember and honor Gary Lasko and keep his family in their thoughts. Gary Lasko was a Memphis native who died in the collapse of the first World Trade Center building—along with the nearly 3,000 other innocent people who perished that day.”

“Today, as we stand with the families and loved ones of those lost on 9/11, we also honor and remember victims of terrorism around the globe in all its forms, whether perpetrated by al Qaeda or despotic regimes with little regard for their citizens.”

“On the anniversary of the deadliest attack on domestic soil in our nation’s history, all Americans should come together and remember the thousands of innocent lives lost—but we should also look back on the stunning selflessness shown by our nation’s first responders and the countless other heroes forged that day. While the cowardice shown by the 9/11 bombers fades with each passing year, the shared sense of national unity and purpose that flourished in the aftermath continues to shine. As we live on, let us remember that the indomitable American spirit lives on as well.”

Congressman Cohen also commemorated the 12th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks on the Floor of the U.S. House of Representatives. Video of the Congressman’s remarks is available here.
