Cohen Launches Social Media Campaign for One-on-One Matchup Between Grizzlies Owner Robert Pera & NBA All-Star Detlef Schrempf
[MEMPHIS, TN] – After Memphis Grizzlies owner Robert Pera challenged both Michael Jordan and Tony Allen to charity one-on-one matches that have not yet materialized, Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today suggested that the Grizzlies owner to put his skills to the test against three-time NBA All-Star Detlef Schrempf by launching the #DetlefVsPera social media campaign urging a matchup between the two.
“In the past, Robert Pera has challenged both Michael Jordan and Tony Allen to matchups that have not happened—but if he asked Detlef I’m sure they could set up a one-on-one. I know I would want to see that.” said Congressman Cohen, who also tweeted “Hey @RobertPera, 1-on-1s w @aa000G9 and MJ might not happen, maybe you could ask @Dschrempf to play—I want to see #DetlefVsPera!”
Congressman Cohen met with Schrempf in his Capitol Hill office in July while the NBA star was visiting Washington to highlight the Seafood Nutrition Partnership, which today in Memphis launched a three-city interactive pilot program to help educate Americans about the health benefits of fish, and discussed with him a potential Schrempf vs. Pera matchup. A photo of the July meeting is available here. Congressman Cohen spoke at this morning’s kickoff event for the program, which will operate in Memphis, Boston, and Indianapolis. The Congressman also mentioned the potential matchup to Grizzlies General Manager Chris Wallace.
