Cohen: Memphis to Receive Nearly $1 Million in FEMA Port Security Funds

[MEMPHIS, TN] – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today announced that the City of Memphis was awarded $998,618 in Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) funding through the FY 2014 Port Security Grant Program. Under this same announcement, the Shelby County Government was awarded $5,000 in funding and Ergon Asphalt and Emulsions, Inc. Memphis was also awarded $24,999.

“This funding will help keep our city safe and grow the Memphis economy,” said Congressman Cohen.

FEMA’s Port Security Grant Program (PSGP) provides funding for transportation infrastructure security activities to implement Area Maritime Transportation Security Plans and facility security plans among port authorities, facility operators, and State and local government agencies required to provide port security services. The program’s FY 2014 awards are intended to assist ports in obtaining the resources required to support the National Preparedness Goal’s associated Mission Areas and Core Capabilities.
