Cohen Offers Memphians Chance to See His Holiness Pope Francis in Washington
[MEMPHIS, TN] – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today announced that he is accepting entries from Ninth District constituents into a lottery for tickets to watch His Holiness Pope Francis’ upcoming address to Congress—the first such address by a Pope in history—and have a chance to see the Pope in person when he is in Washington, D.C., on September 24. Interested citizens of the Ninth District can enter the lottery and request up to four tickets by visiting /pope or calling (901) 544-4131 before 5PM CT Friday, September 4th. Lottery winners will be selected randomly and notified by September 9th.
“Pope Francis’ visit to Washington will mark the first time in our nation’s history a Pope has addressed Congress, and I am pleased to be able to offer Memphians the chance to be part of this historic event.” said Congressman Cohen.
Each Member of Congress has been allocated a small number of standing room only tickets to watch the Pope's speech to a Joint Session of Congress from the West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol. Ticketholders will be able to watch the Pope's address and, if time permits, the Pope may also make an appearance on the Capitol's west balcony to greet the people on the West Lawn after his speech. Lottery winners, who must reside in the Ninth District, will be able to pick their ticket(s) up in Congressman Cohen’s Capitol Hill office on September 23. Tickets cannot be transferred, sold, or given away and do not include transportation or lodging.
