Cohen Receives Perfect Voting Record from Americans for Democratic Action

April 23, 2010

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Steve Cohen (D-TN) was recently recognized by Americans for Democratic Action (ADA) for having a perfect voting record on economic and social justice issues. The Congressman was the only member of the Tennessee delegation to receive a perfect score.

“Americans for Democratic Action has a long history of monitoring elected officials and their voting records,” said Congressman Cohen. “It is a privilege and an honor to be recognized for my work to create jobs and jumpstart the economy, and promoting social justice.”

“We at Americans for Democratic Action are proud that Congressman Cohen has been a steadfast supporter of economic and social justice," said ADA National Director Michael Wilson. "Most important, he has not just talked the talk, he has cast his votes on the side of Tennessee’s working families in favor of jobs, health care, and fixing our broken economy."

A lifelong supporter of economic and social justice issues, Congressman Cohen has been a proponent of expanding economic security, protecting the civil rights and liberties of his constituents, and ensuring sustainable environmental policy in Tennessee and across the country.

Every year, ADA compiles a Congressional Voting Scorecard of 20 bills that covers issues that affect Americans and are considered by members of Congress. The scorecard includes issues that cover the economic, social, domestic and international landscape. ADA founders included Eleanor Roosevelt, labor leader Walter Reuther, economist John Kenneth Galbraith, historian Arthur Schlesinger Jr., and theologian Reinhold Niebuhr.
