Cohen Statement on President Obama's State of the Union Speech
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-9) today issued the following statement on President Obama’s State of the Union speech:
“President Obama spoke directly to Americans across the country tonight about what we need to do to create jobs, improve the economy and reduce the federal deficit. The most important contest we face today is not between Democrats and Republicans. It is between Americans and our overseas competitors. The President realizes that continuing to turn our country around economically requires hard work and persistence and we must all work together to build upon the progress we’ve made.
To successfully win the future for America’s middle-class, we must invest in transportation, infrastructure, clean energy and education so we can rebuild our economy and maintain its strength for years to come. If we invest in our people and our communities and give them the tools they need to succeed in a rapidly-changing, fast-paced 21st century economy, we will achieve a better future for all Americans.”
