Cohen Statement on President's Creation of Task Force on Gun Violence

December 19, 2012

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today praised President Barack Obama’s decision to create a Cabinet-level task force, led by Vice-President Joe Biden, to make recommendations on gun control measures. The task force is due to report back in 30 days.

Congressman Cohen stated, “As part of the 2006 Congressional class which included Congresswoman Gabriel Giffords, I’m acutely aware of the consequences of gun violence, particularly when high capacity ammunition magazines are used. I will be working with Leader Pelosi and other members of the Class of 2006 to create reasonable, logical and workable protections for the American public. I appreciate President Obama’s leadership and determination in seizing the moment to ensure that our children, our teachers and all citizens live in a safer America.”
