Cohen Statement on Shooting of Congresswoman Giffords
WASHINGTON, D.C – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-9) today issued the following statement after learning of the shooting of Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords (AZ-8). The Congresswoman was shot at a public event in Tucson, Arizona by a gunman who began firing indiscriminately into the crowd. At least five other people have been killed, and others have been injured – including members of Giffords’ staff and a federal judge.
“I am saddened and horrified by the attack on Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, her staff, and her constituents,” said Congressman Cohen. “She is a dear friend and colleague from the Congressional Class of 2006. My prayers go out to Congresswoman Gifford, her family, and the other victims of this American tragedy. Such a despicable and destructive act should not take place in a civilized and sane society. Whoever is responsible for this terrible attack on the Congresswoman and an innocent crowd of civilians should be prosecuted to the fullest extent possible.”
