Cohen Statement on Shots Fired at St. Matthew Missionary Baptist Church in Orange Mound

[WASHINGTON, DC] – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) issued the following statement following reports of shots fired at a Memphis church. The Congressman also reached out this morning to St. Matthew’s Reverend Patrick Lewis, Sr., about the incident.

“Houses of worship are sacred in our communities, and I was shocked to learn shots were fired at St. Matthew Missionary Baptist Church in Memphis last night. I’ve reached out to Reverend Lewis, Sr., and was pleased to learn that no one was hurt, especially in light of last night’s church shooting in South Carolina. I thank the Memphis Police Department for their swift response to this incident and hope the perpetrator or perpetrators are caught and brought to justice.”
