Cohen Statement on Ticket Access to Obama Commencement Speech
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Steve Cohen (D-TN-9) today issued the following statement on ticket access to President Obama’s Monday commencement speech at Booker T. Washington High School in Memphis, Tennessee. The Memphis high school was selected by the President as the winner of this year’s Race to the Top High School Commencement Challenge:
“We appreciate everyone’s interest in this exciting, inspiring and historic event for the graduates of Booker T. Washington High School and the city of Memphis. However, the Booker T. Washington commencement ceremony on Monday is a Memphis City Schools event which will be limited to students, parents and faculty of Booker T. Washington High School and only a handful of others. Because it is a limited-attendance event being coordinated by Memphis City Schools, we regret that we cannot accommodate the many requests for tickets.”
