Cohen Urges Local Businesses to Answer Voluntary Questionaire on How Best to Create Jobs

April 14, 2010

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman Steve Cohen (D-TN-9) urged businesses in the 9th district to complete and submit his 2010 Jobs Survey -- a voluntary questionnaire created to gather input and ideas on how best to create jobs and spur economic growth. The survey must be returned by April 21.

“While we are seeing strong signs of economic recovery, there are businesses and citizens in the 9th Congressional District who are still suffering,” said Congressman Cohen. “It’s important to do everything possible to determine how we can help the Memphis economy. This voluntary questionnaire is short, insightful and will help us create jobs throughout the 9th district. We have ideas in Congress on how best to spur economic growth but would appreciate input from our local businesses.”

The deadline for submitting Congressman Cohen’s questionnaire is Wednesday, April 21, 2010. The survey was modeled after a questionnaire created by the Joint Economic Committee of the United States Congress. The committee is charged with reporting on the current economic conditions of the country and how to improve them.

Congressman Cohen’s questionnaire is voluntary. All individual replies will be kept private but the collected data may be released at a future date. Some of the questions on the survey include:

  • What new ideas should Congress consider to create jobs and spur hiring?
  • Of the following, which factor is the strongest impediment to hiring new employees over the next year?
  • Has your company hired any new employees in the last 12 months, other than to fill a vacancy?

Completed surveys should be returned either by mail or fax to:
