Cohen Urges Renewal of Highway Trust Fund
[WASHINGTON, DC] – On Thursday morning, Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) took to the floor of the House of Representatives to urge the passage of a multi-year reauthorization of the highway trust fund.
“There is nothing more important for this Congress to do than create jobs for the American public. The best way to create jobs is to pass an extension of the Highway Act,” said Congressman Cohen. “I pledge to support efforts to get a transportation bill passed and to make America proud of its infrastructure again – bridges, runways and roads.”
“When President Eisenhower needed a sponsor for the Highway bill in the Senate, it was Albert Gore, Sr. from Tennessee, a Democrat, who sponsored that bill. We need bipartisanship the way we had it with Eisenhower and Gore to come up with a highway extension.”
