Cohen: UTHSC to Receive $482K for Heart and Vascular Diseases Research
MEMPHIS, TN – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today announced the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has awarded the University of Tennessee Health Science Center $482,304 in new federal funds for heart and vascular diseases research. The funds will be distributed by the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI).
“UTHSC is known around the country for its excellent research facilities,” said Congressman Cohen. “These new federal funds will give researchers and doctors at UTHSC the tools they need to help people with heart and vascular diseases in Tennessee and across the country.”
NHLBI provides global leadership for a research, training, and education program to promote the prevention and treatment of heart, lung, and blood diseases and enhance the health of all individuals so that they can live longer and more fulfilling lives. The NHLBI stimulates basic discoveries about the causes of disease, enables the translation of basic discoveries into clinical practice, fosters training and mentoring of emerging scientists and physicians, and communicates research advances to the public.
