Cohen Votes to Save Country Nearly $5 Billion on House Floor

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-9) today voted to save our country nearly $5 billion in an effort to help reduce the federal deficit.
“Members of Congress should work to create jobs and to reduce the federal deficit,” said Congressman Cohen. “I supported a number of measures today to combat our country’s skyrocketing deficit. To successfully strengthen our economy during these tough economic times, we must live within our means and stop wasteful spending.”
Below is the list of measures Congressman Cohen supported to help save our country from wasteful spending:
- Holt (NJ) Amendment (#237). Eliminates the Iraq Security Forces Fund, which is $1.5 billion.
- Rooney (FL)/Larson (CT) Amendment (#2). Eliminates Joint Strike Fighter alternate engine (F136) funding from the bill, which is $2.9 billion.
- Jones (NC) Amendment (#95). Eliminates the Afghanistan Infrastructure Fund, which is $400 million.
- DeFazio (OR) Amendment (#98). Eliminates all funding for Independent Agencies, Selective Service System, salaries and expenses, which is approximately $24 million.
- Flake (AZ) Amendment (#368). Eliminates funding for the National Drug Intelligence Center (NDIC), which is approximately $34 million.
- Latta (OH) Amendment (#260). Cuts construction of research facilities for the National Institute of Standards and Technology by $10 million.
