Cohen Votes to Support Home Star Energy Retrofit Act
May 6, 2010
“The Home Star program will create hundreds of green jobs in Memphis and save our families money by making their homes more energy efficient,” said Congressman Cohen. “The measure would also help preserve our environment for future generations by drastically cutting greenhouse gas emissions and reducing our dependence on dirty, dangerous fossil fuels.”
The Home Star Energy Retrofit Act (H.R. 5019) is a two-year, short-term jobs program that would provide valuable incentives for homeowners who retrofit their homes to purchase products that increase energy-efficiency, help create immediate jobs and save families money. Home Star is designed to spur home energy retrofits by providing direct incentives for homeowners to install American-made energy-saving products and conduct whole-home retrofits.
The bipartisan measure has been endorsed by a broad range of business, labor, environmental and consumer groups. Supporters range from President Obama to the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, the National Association of Home Builders and the Home Star Coalition – which has more than 1,000 business and organization members nationwide. The House Energy and Commerce Committee passed the measure with bipartisan support earlier this month.
