Cohen Writes President-Elect Obama to Urge Him to Invite "Hudson River Hero" to State of the Union

January 15, 2009

“He is the consummate pilot and deserves recognition from you and the United States Congress at your first State of the Union,” said Congressman Cohen in the letter.

Capt. Sullenberger has received international recognition and praise for his deft maneuvering after a flock of geese got sucked into the engines of the Airbus A320 he was piloting and caused a catastrophic engine failure. He is already being hailed as the “Hudson River Hero.”

“Like all Americans, I was inspired by Capt. Sullenberger’s heroics yesterday,” said Congressman Cohen. “We could use a hero right now in these troubled times, and Capt. Sullenberger certainly fits the bill. I can think of no better person to recognize during President-elect Obama’s first State of the Union Address.”
