Congressman Cohen Announces $1.04 Million for UT-HSC
The National Institute of Cancer, a division of HHS, granted a new award in the amount of $516,029 to Dr. Lawrence Pfeffer, Vice Chairman of the Department of Pathology at UT-HSC. Dr. Reiter’s is currently conducting research related to cancer biology.
The National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute, another division of HHS, granted a new award in the amount of $528,010 to Dr. Christopher Waters, a Professor and Vice-Chair of the Department of Physiology at UT-HSC for his research into lung disease.
Congressman Cohen stated, “I am proud for both Drs. Waters and Pfeffer for earning these new awards for the University of Tennessee Health Science Center. Securing new funding is paramount for research hospitals during these tough times, and I’m glad that HHS has appropriated these monies for life-saving research being undertaken right here in the 9th District. With our new President, there is a renewed emphasis on scientific innovation, and I plan to continue to fight to secure additional funding for all of our great local biomedical research institutions.”
