Congressman Cohen Announces $254,901 Grant for MATA

September 17, 2008

“I am very pleased to report that MATA has been awarded these monies for updating their advanced public transportation systems,” said Congressman Cohen. “I have made the improvement of our public transportation infrastructure in the 9th District a major priority during my tenure, and I applaud the DOT for awarding MATA the necessary funding to serve our community better.”

MATA will use these funds to supplement other grants for replacing its radio system and adding an automatic vehicle locator system, automatic passenger counters and stop annunciators, and an automatic vehicle monitoring system.

“Within the current economic climate and with gas prices soaring, MATA must have the resources to serve a growing number of public transportation customers,” added Congressman Cohen. ““I will continue to fight to ensure that MATA gets all the federal funding that it needs to meet the needs of all people in the 9th District.”
