Congressman Cohen Announces $6 Million for St. Jude

June 17, 2008

“I am very pleased that the National Cancer Institute has presented this award to St. Jude,” said Congressman Cohen. “St. Jude’s accomplishments in the areas of cancer research are innumerable and its impact can be felt across the globe. Discoveries made at St. Jude have completely changed how the world treats children with cancer and other catastrophic childhood diseases. I am proud that St. Jude continues to call the 9th District of Tennessee home, and I applaud HHS and the leaders at the National Cancer Institute for recognizing St. Jude with this award.”

To facilitate discovery and its translation into direct benefit to patients and the general public, the NCI awards CCSGs to institutions that have a critical mass of excellent cancer-relevant scientific research. The CCSG focus on research derives from NCI’s conviction that a culture of discovery, scientific excellence, multidisciplinary research and collaboration generates a cascade of tangible benefits extending far beyond the generation of new knowledge.
