Congressman Cohen Celebrates Earth Day

April 22, 2010

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Steve Cohen (D-TN-9) today issued the following statement in celebration of Earth Day:

“Our planet is the most precious resource we have and it is vital that we do everything in our power to preserve our environment for future generations. If we are going to improve the air we breathe and the water we drink, we must combat the pollution that destroys our lungs and ruins our atmosphere.

We must treat every day like it is Earth Day. If everyone chips in and we all work together, we can reduce our dependence on foreign oil, reduce carbon pollution, lower energy costs for American families and businesses, and establish a clean energy economy that will help create jobs across the country.”

Congressman Cohen is the author of the 10 Million Solar Roofs and 10 Million Gallons of Solar Water Heating Act. The measure would provide valuable cash rebates for the creation of 10 million small power plants located on the roofs of American homes and businesses throughout the country. The legislation also would create an estimated 1.35 million direct and indirect jobs, lower energy costs, strengthen the economy, and put America on the path to energy independence.
