Congressman Cohen Featured Speaker at Capitol Hill Event to Honor First Responders

September 25, 2007

Washington, DC – Today Congressman Steve Cohen was the featured speaker at the National First Responder Appreciation Day on Capitol Hill. The event, hosted by the First Response Coalition, recognized the men and women of the emergency services for their sacrifices, contributions and dedication to public service. The First Response Coalition is urging the passage of H. Res. 592, the National First Responder Appreciation Day resolution which would designate September 25th as the day that recognizes first responders.

Congressman Cohen stated, “Since my job as Police Legal Advisor beginning in 1976, I’ve had a great appreciation for the work done by law enforcement as well as other first responders. The tragic events of both 9/11 and Katrina have highlighted what first responders do every day to save lives, often at the risk of their own. I’m happy to be a cosponsor of the legislation to make September 25th National First Responder Appreciation Day.”

Other speakers at today’s event included representatives of International Association of Black Professional Firefighters, Veterans of Foreign Wars, National Black Police Association, and The Salvation Army.
