Congressman Cohen to Host Two Town Hall Meetings on Monday, May 12 and Saturday May 17

May 5, 2008

The Monday, May 12 Town Hall Meeting will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. at Memphis Botanic Garden’s Hardin Hall, 750 Cherry Rd. in the vicinity of Audubon Park. On Saturday, May 17, the Town Hall Meeting will be held from 10 a.m. to noon at the Orange Mound Community Center, 2590 Park Ave.

“These two events will be great opportunities to continue our dialogue on the most pressing issues remaining before the 110th Congress,” said Congressman Cohen. “And I look forward to hearing about matters of importance to the people of the 9th District. In previous Town Hall Meetings, we have discussed the economy, the war in Iraq, health care, crime and education – and I will report on some of the progress we have made in Washington on these very important issues at the upcoming events. The ‘open microphone’ format will provide a forum where questions and comments on a variety of issues can be addressed.”

On April 29 and May 6, Congressman Cohen hosted Telephone Town Hall Meetings which gave constituents the opportunity to ask questions to the Congressman and his staff, and receive assistance on matters of constituent service. More than 9,000 people from the 9th District have participated in the two calls.

“I was very happy to utilize this exciting new technology as a way to reach out to all the people of the 9th District,” said Congressman Cohen. “The response from the calls was overwhelmingly positive, and I plan to continue to find new ways to interact with constituents and make it easier for them to have their voices heard. I know that not everyone always has the time to come to my traditional Town Halls or visit my offices in Washington or Downtown, and these Telephone Town Halls gave people the opportunity to talk to me from the comfort of their own home.”

Since taking office in January 2007, Congressman Cohen has hosted 10 public meetings in locations all around the 9th Congressional District, giving his constituents the opportunity to interact with him and his staff, as well as provide constituent service.
