Congressman Cohen Reacts to Full-Page New York Times Ad Accusing Ambassador Rice of Ignoring Genocide

[MEMPHIS, TN] - Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today defended Ambassador Susan Rice from charges in a New York Times full-page advertisement that she turned a blind eye to genocides in Rwandans and the Jewish people.

"This advertisement is unfortunate and wrong. Reasonable minds may disagree but character assassination is never appropriate. It is unfortunate that the firestorm surrounding Prime Minister Netanyahu's planned speech to Congress has caused such conduct, but this is not about Susan Rice, it is not about Rwanda. This is about what is good for Israel and what is appropriate diplomatic behavior. The Prime Minister's speech, at the time it is scheduled and in the way it was planned, is harmful to both Israel and reasonable discourse in Washington."
