Congressman Cohen, Sens. Alexander and Corker Announce $1.1 Million for Memphis Fire Services

The AFG program provides grants directly to local fire departments so they can obtain equipment, protective gear, emergency vehicles, training, and other resources needed to protect the public and emergency personnel from fire and related hazards.

“I am grateful to the Department of Homeland Security for recognizing the needs of the Memphis Fire Department,” said Congressman Cohen. “I strongly supported the firefighters when they applied for this grant, and I am happy to see their efforts rewarded. Our first responders in Memphis put their lives on the line every day to keep us safe, and I have always supported increased federal funding for their operations. With almost 1,900 employees, the brave men and women of the Memphis Fire Department deserve all the support they can get to continue to provide excellent services to all the people of Memphis.”

“This grant will help give the firefighters in Memphis the vital resources they need to save lives,” Sen. Alexander said. “I appreciate the Department of Homeland Security's investment for emergency preparedness, and I will continue to work to ensure that fire departments in Tennessee are ready and able to keep our citizens safe.”

Corker. “This grant will help ensure the City of Memphis Division of Fire Services has the support it needs to save lives and protect property throughout the Memphis area.
