Congressman Cohen Votes To Spur Small Business Development

November 18, 2009
“Nationwide, small businesses create 95 percent of jobs. If we’re going to turn the page on this economic crisis, we need to do more to help budding entrepreneurs turn their dreams into a reality. The grant and loan programs offered by the U.S Small Business Administration are vital to that effort,” Congressman Cohen said. “Equally important, by providing funding to help small businesses engaged in offering health care services to invest in cutting edge health information technology systems, we’ll be helping to lower health care costs for consumers.”
This afternoon Congressman Cohen voted to support three bills aimed at helping small businesses:

• H.R. 3014, The Small Business Health Information Technology Financing Act -- which creates a loan program in the U.S. Small Business Administration to help medical professionals purchase health information technology.

• H.R. 3738, the Small Business Early-Stage Investment Act -- which creates an investment program through the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) that would be tasked with providing grants to small businesses involved in health information technology, digital technology, defense technology, and agriculture research and development.

• H.R 1842, The Expand Entrepreneurship Act -- which directs the SBA to develop a comprehensive plan that identifies a strategy for each SBA region to create jobs through its programs.

The three bills now go to the U.S. Senate for their consideration.
