Congressman Cohen's Statement on the 64th Anniversary of the Signing of the Original GI Bill

June 19, 2008

“It is appropriate, as the 64th anniversary of President Roosevelt signing the original GI bill nears, that the House passed the new GI Bill. I call upon President Bush to sign it into law upon passage by the Senate, and honor the sacrifices our troops have made in Iraq and Afghanistan. Just as the U.S. Government under Roosevelt recognized the sacrifices of what would come to be known as the Greatest Generation, we must honor another great generation of veterans. It is imperative that we pay tribute to our troops with a college education and give back to those who have given so much.”
