May 21, 2007

Washington, DC -- The Memphis district office of Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-9), in cooperation with the Tennessee Small Business Development Center and Southwest Tennessee Community College, will host a one-day workshop for small business owners and aspiring entrepreneurs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday, June 4 at Southwest Tennessee Community College, Macon Cove campus, 5983 Macon Cove, located south of Interstate 40 and Sycamore View.

The workshop will provide an opportunity to hear from and interact with government officials and private sector providers about the necessity of developing strategic business plans and effective ways to market and finance small businesses. In addition, Israel Hernandez, U.S. Assistant Secretary and Director General of the Trade Promotion and Commercial Service of the U.S. Department of Commerce, will discuss global marketing and competition.

“Small businesses are the solid foundations upon which communities are built and an integral part of American life,” said Congressman Cohen. “Owning a business is the dream of so many Americans and the right information can ease the process for those who want to pursue that dream.”

The workshop is free and open to the public but seating is limited to 75 participants. Reservations for the workshop must be made by Friday, June 1 by contacting the Tennessee Small Business Development Center at (901) 333-5085.
