House Approves More Than $21 Million in Federal Funding for Ninth District

December 10, 2009
Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-9) stated, “This is indeed good news for the Ninth District. Federal funding is making a real difference in the lives and livelihoods of constituents in the Ninth District -- from GED and job mentoring programs for teenagers, building more affordable housing for seniors, investing in health care and keeping our neighborhoods safe. Additionally, these federal funds will encourage job creation and economic development through small business development programs at the University of Memphis, nurse and forensic training programs at Southwest Tennessee Community College, and Elvis Presley Boulevard improvements in Whitehaven.”

“To keep the Ninth District the distribution hub of America, the bill contains money to build a new air traffic control tower at Memphis Airport. I am pleased that the the bill has funds to create an engineering maintenance and training facility for the 164th Airlift Wing,” Congressman Cohen continued. “I appreciate the work of Senators Alexander and Corker in obtaining these funds. I urge the Senate to pass this bill quickly so that President Obama can sign it into law.”
The Senate is expected to pass the Consolidated Appropriations Bill soon – possibly this weekend. President Obama has indicated he will sign the legislation into law.
