SATURDAY: Harry Belafonte, Danny Glover, John Conyers to Join Congressman Cohen at 9th District Town

“I am very grateful that Mr. Belafonte, Mr. Glover and Chairman Conyers will join the dialogue at the 9th District Town Hall this weekend,” said Congressman Cohen. “Mr. Belafonte was a personal friend and associate of Dr. King’s, Mr. Glover is well-known for his social activism and Congressman John Conyers is the only politician for whom Dr. King ever actively campaigned. All three of these men have been passionate crusaders for civil rights and equal justice in America. Attendees at tomorrow’s Town Hall will have a wonderful opportunity to hear personal remembrances of Dr. King and hear the views of these three leaders about how we can move our district and our nation closer to Dr. King’s dream.”

The Town Hall dialogue will include issues that Congressman Cohen has made a priority during his first term in Congress such as youth incarceration, racial, social and economic equality, and criminal justice. The special guests will discuss these topics as well as the importance of non-violent actions as a tactic to change public policy. This event will give the public the opportunity to engage in a dialogue with Congressman Cohen, Mr. Belafonte, Mr. Glover and Congressman Conyers on the issues most pressing and relevant to the 9th District.

“I urge everyone to attend this important event,” said Congressman Cohen. “I would also especially encourage young people in the District to attend to ensure that this event is multi-generational and that those whose memories may not extend back to Dr. King’s life can participate in this important conversation about where we have been, where we are now and where we are going.”
