Statement on St. Jude Cancer Research Announcement
January 25, 2010
“Today’s announcement of the groundbreaking medical research that will be undertaken by doctors and scientists at St. Jude and Washington University will make a tremendous difference in the lives of children who have been diagnosed with cancer and their families. Scientists have already used genome sequencing to better understand and treat breast, lung, brain and ovarian cancers. However, this research is vital to giving doctors more effective treatment options for their young patients who are suffering from pediatric cancer, the leading cause of death among children over the age of one. Their research will help to unlock the genetic mysteries surrounding cancer and to keep the Ninth District on the front lines of cutting-edge medical research.”
