Cheering on the UofM Tigers
Dear Friend,
This week, I was home in the district and spending time with old friends while planning to attend Saturday's Liberty Bowl game against the Iowa State Cyclones. I have been asked to appear on MSNBC on Sunday morning. I also plan to speak at former Memphis City Councilman Myron Lowery's annual New Year's Day prayer breakfast. I'm also offering some advice on selecting a designated driver for New Year's Eve. Keep reading to learn more about my week and follow me on Twitter and Facebook to see more updates as they happen.

Quote of the Week
On Saturday, I'll be at AutoZone Liberty Bowl Stadium to cheer on the University of Memphis Tigers against the Iowa State Cyclones. Remember to layer up for what's likely to be a frigid 11:30 a.m. kickoff. For details on parking and Liberty Bowl schedule and amenities, click here.
Congratulations to Coach Mike Norvell and the team. Go Tigers!
Appearing on MSNBC Sunday Morning
On Sunday at 11:10 a.m. Memphis time, I've been asked to appear on MSNBC to speak with host Frances Rivera about the news of the day, which will likely involve the Russia-Trump campaign probe and Special Counsel Robert Mueller's investigation.
Speaking at Myron Lowery's New Year's Day Prayer Breakfast
On Monday, I will again speak at former City Councilman Myron Lowery's annual Prayer Breakfast. I'm looking forward to ringing in the new year with old friends and to kicking off what promises to be an exciting year in Memphis and nationally. I plan to talk about protecting the country from President Trump's dangerous tax plan while helping to protect Memphis and the middle class.
Reminding Constituents of Annual District Issues Meeting on January12
I'm looking forward to meeting citizens of the 9th Congressional District on Friday, January 12, at the Clifford Davis/Odell Horton Federal Building, 167 North Main Street, Suite 369, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. I'll take questions on a variety of subjects and talk about initiatives I have planned for 2018. If you plan to attend, please RSVP to my Memphis office at (901) 544-4131. I hope to see you there.
2018 U.S. Capitol Historical Society Calendars Are Available
My office currently has a limited number of 2018 U.S. Capitol Historical Society calendars available. If you would like to receive a calendar, please complete this form on my website. Due to the rules of the House, I am only able to mail calendars to residents of Tennessee's 9th District. Please feel free to share this email with other residents of the 9th District who may be interested in receiving one but who do not receive my eNewsletter.
Each week, I share a health tip in the hopes of promoting a healthy lifestyle for residents of the 9th Congressional District. As always, it is best to check with your doctor before making any changes to your diet, exercise routine or lifestyle.
This year, as we approach New Year's Eve, I'd like to ask all those who plan to bring in 2018 with some bubbly – or something stronger -- to consider planning ahead and naming a designated driver. Please remember that the designated driver should not be whoever is the least drunk, but someone who has pledged to remain sober. For details on designated drivers, click here.
Last week's health tip bears repeating: Often celebrating the holidays involves parties and drinking. The National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism has some tips about how to safely celebrate the season, including planning ahead and realizing alcohol in even small amounts can decrease both inhibitions and good judgment.
"Hope smiles from the threshold of the year to come, whispering, ‘it will be happier.'" – Alfred Lord Tennyson, "The Foresters" (1891)
Happy New Year!
As always, I remain,
Most sincerely,
