Have a Safe and Happy Thanksgiving!
Thanksgiving is a time for us to gather with our families and loved ones and pause to count our blessings. As we enjoy our Thanksgiving meals, we should remember those who are not as fortunate and those who remain in need. We should also all remember those who cannot be with their families because they are protecting our country overseas, as well as those veterans who have done so in the past. I hope everyone has a safe and happy Thanksgiving!
Remembering President John F. Kennedy
This week, I reflected on the assassination of President John F. Kennedy which occurred on November 22, 1963. This was a day that shocked America, and one that we must not forget. When I was 11 years old, John F. Kennedy came to Memphis while on the campaign trail. I remember he turned toward me near the Methodist Church on Union and Cooper. I took a photo of him that hangs on my wall in Washington and remains one of my most prized possessions. Through President Kennedy I saw that politics could be an honorable profession and I have tried to live up to his immortal words: “ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country” as I represent the people of Memphis and the 9th district of Tennessee.
Honoring Dr. James L. Netters for 60 Years of Pastoral Service
On Friday, I honored Dr. James L. Netters for his 60 years of pastoral service at Mt. Vernon Baptist Church Westwood. Congratulations to Dr. Netters!
Riding in the Whitehaven Christmas Parade
On Saturday, I rode on the back of my car and threw footballs and candy into the crowd during the annual Whitehaven Christmas Parade. I also enjoyed listening to the marching bands, watching the floats and meeting residents of the community to kick off the holiday season.
Celebrating the 136th Anniversary of Mt. Pisgah CME Church
On Sunday, I attended Mt. Pisgah CME Church’s 136th Church Anniversary service and historical marker unveiling. Congratulations to Bishop, Rev. Henry Williams Sr. and the entire Mt. Pisgah congregation on their milestone!

Weekly Health Tip
Each week, I will be suggesting a health tip in the hopes of promoting a healthy lifestyle for residents of the 9th Congressional District. As always, it’s best to check with your doctor before making any changes to your diet, exercise routine or lifestyle.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture recommends a different calorie intake for different ages of people and for different levels of activity. Click here to learn how much it’s recommended that someone of your age or activity level eat this Thanksgiving to maintain a healthy lifestyle.
