WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) went to the House floor this afternoon to commend the Ford Motor Company for its commitment to invest $5.6 billion to build a 3,600-acre mega campus, Blue Oval City, on the Memphis Regional Megasite in Haywood County. The campus will include the Ford assembly plant, a supplier park and a battery manufacturing plant to produce the company's F-series all-electric trucks. The investment is expected to create 5,800 new jobs.

WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09), a senior member of the Judiciary Committee, today questioned Attorney General Merrick Garland at an oversight hearing on the Department of Justice.

WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen learned of the passing of Bishop W.A. Sesley, the longtime leader of the Morning Star Holiness Church in Memphis, and made the following statement:

WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) went to the House floor this evening to urge his Congressional colleagues to support the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) already passed in the Senate. Congressman Cohen has repeatedly pointed to the positive impacts this bill will have on Memphis and nationwide from economic growth, increased labor participation, and enhanced U.S. competitiveness.

WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09), Chairman of the Judiciary Subcommittee on the Constitution, Civil Rights, and Civil Liberties, today presided at a hearing on "Oversight of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990: The Current State of Integration of People with Disabilities."
In his opening statement, Chairman Cohen said:

MEMPHIS – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09), a senior member of the Judiciary Committee, today announced a $475,000 grant to Memphis and Shelby County to address sexual behavior problems in youth from the Department of Justice's Office of Juvenile Justice Delinquency Prevention.

MEMPHIS – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09), a senior member of the Judiciary Committee and its Subcommittee on Crime, Terrorism, and Homeland Security, today announced that Memphis and Shelby County will share an Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant of $931,746 from the Department of Justice. The grant is intended to prevent or control crime based on a local assessment of needs.

MEMPHIS – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) is closely monitoring developments in the shooting at the at the U.S. Postal Service facility in Orange Mound that has reportedly resulted in the deaths of three postal employees including the shooter.
Congressman Cohen made the following statement:

MEMPHIS – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today voted for, and the House passed, a temporary increase to the debt limit so that the United States can meet its obligation to creditors through at least early December. The vote followed Senate action last week. The measure now goes to the president to be signed into law.
The party-line vote on passage was 219 to 206.

WASHINGTON – Representatives Steve Cohen (TN-09), Brian Fitzpatrick (PA-01), Jan Schakowsky (IL-09) and Vern Buchanan (FL-16) today introduced the Prevent All Soring Tactics (PAST) Act, to prohibit the intentional injury to the hooves and legs of performance walking horses such as Tennessee's iconic walking horses.
