WASHINGTON -- Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09), joined by Congresswomen Suzanne Bonamici (OR-01) and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (NY-14), today introduced the Fair Debt Collection Improvement Act that would prohibit debt collectors from collecting or attempting to collect debt from consumers after a statute of limitation has expired.

MEMPHIS – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09), a senior member of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee and its Subcommittee on Aviation, today announced two significant grants totaling $14,880,645 to Memphis International Airport from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). The funding comes from the Coronavirus Relief and Response Supplemental Appropriations (CRRSA) Act of 2020 that Congressman Cohen supported and that became law in December.

WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today announced two National Institutes of Health grants to the University of Tennessee Health Science Center (UTHSC). The first, for $580,839, from the National Institute of Environmental and Health Sciences, is for research on the epigenetic response to organophosphorus compounds. The second, for $226,000, from the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research, is for work on oral diseases.

WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09), Chairman of the Judiciary Subcommittee on the Constitution, Civil Rights, and Civil Liberties, today presided at a hearing on "Discrimination and Violence Against Asian Americans," less than two days after the killing of six Asian American women in the Atlanta suburbs.

The hearing focused on both historic systemic racism and the alarming increase in anti-Asian racist rhetoric and violence related to the coronavirus pandemic.

WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today announced that the University of Tennessee Health Science Center (UTHSC) will be receiving two major grants totaling $1,090,171 from the National Institute of Allergies and Infectious Diseases. Both grants are for antifungal research, including one looking at the species Aspergillus fumigatus.

WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09), Chairman of the Judiciary Subcommittee on the Constitution, Civil Rights, and Civil Liberties today voted for, and the House passed, an extension of the deadline to ratify the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA) and a reauthorization of the Violence Against Women Act. Congressman Cohen presided at the first hearing on the Equal Rights Amendment in 36 years in May of 2019, and he has been a longtime and consistent supporter of gender equality.

In a floor speech today before the votes, Congressman Cohen said:
