“Any delay in providing care to the brave men and women who risked their lives for our safety is unacceptable, and I have consistently pushed to give the VA the resources and personnel needed to provide timely care.”

[WASHINGTON, DC] – Five million dollars to help eliminate the national rape kit backlog that Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) secured in the House-passed Fiscal Year 2015 Commerce, Justice and Science (CJS) Appropriations bill was approved by the U.S. Senate Appropriations Committee this morning.

[MEMPHIS, TN] – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today announced 5 federal grants totaling $1,356,084 in funding for several projects at the University of Memphis. This funding comes through the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), the National Science Foundation (NSF), and the National Park Service (NPS).

“I am pleased that the federal government has made these important investments in the University of Memphis and their talented scholars,” said Congressman Cohen.

[MEMPHIS, TN] – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today announced $3,260,950 in federal funding for the Memphis Health Center, which provides high-quality, affordable health care services to Shelby County citizens. This grant funding comes from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Health Resources and Services Administration.

[WASHINGTON, DC] – The U.S. House of Representatives this afternoon passed on a voice vote Congressman Steve Cohen’s (TN-09) amendment to the Fiscal Year 2015 Commerce, Justice and Science Appropriations bill that would provide more federal resources to local law enforcement agencies working to reduce their backlogs of untested rape kits. Of roughly 400,000 untested rape kits sitting in evidence rooms nationwide, an estimated 12,000 remain untested in Memphis—more than anywhere else in the country.
