WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today introduced the Medicare Medically Necessary Dental Care Act to secure critical dental care for the 47 percent of Medicare beneficiaries who do not currently have dental coverage. Congressman Cohen is also working with the Biden Administration which is in the process of implementing executive actions to address some of these needs.
MEMPHIS – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) has been closely following developments in today’s shooting at the Poplar-White Station Public Library in East Memphis in which a Memphis Police Officer was wounded and another individual was killed, and made the following statement:
WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today announced that the University of Tennessee Health Science Center (UTHSC) will receive $3,148,012 from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to reimburse expenses it incurred in ramping up to address the COVID-19 pandemic threat. The funding will pay for, among other things, the rental of tents used for testing at the center’s parking garages, protective clothing and equipment, additional oxygen supplies and freezers for storing vaccines.
WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09), a senior member of the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, today announced that the Memphis-based tri-state region will receive $14,744,843 in transit funding for Fiscal Year 2023 attributable to the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) which he supported and became law in November 2021. This funding will be distributed to states and communities in the coming weeks, and additional amounts will be awarded on a competitive basis throughout the year.
WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09), a senior member of the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee and its Subcommittee on Highways and Transit, today announced that the City of Memphis will receive a Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) Grant of $640,000 for preparation of a comprehensive “Safe Streets for All” plan.
WASHINGTON -- Congressmen Steve Cohen (TN-09), Jesús “Chuy” García (IL-04) and Ro Khanna (CA-17) and Senators Edward J. Markey (D-Massachusetts) and Richard Blumenthal (D-Connecticut) today reintroduced the Forbidding Airlines from Imposing Ridiculous (FAIR) Fees Act. This bicameral legislation would prohibit airlines from charging fees – including bag, seating, cancellation, and change fees – that are not reasonable or proportional to the costs of the services actually provided.
WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09), recently sworn in to a ninth term, today was named the Ranking Member, or the top member of the minority Democratic Party, on the Transportation and Infrastructure (T&I) Committee’s Aviation Subcommittee, where he will oversee policy on airports, air cargo, commercial airline service and passenger safety.
