WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-9) today wrote to Governor Bill Lee urging him to reverse a directive for the Tennessee Department of Health to report immigrant parents and their children who are on the Department’s Children’s Special Services (CSS) Program beyond June 30 to the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) for deportation.
The letter reads in part:
WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-9) today announced that the University of Tennessee Heath Science Center (UTHSC) will receive two grants totaling $1,854,709 from the National Institutes of Health (NIH).
The first, for $1,344,117, from the Office of the Director of the NIH, is for solution-oriented research identifying early-life modifiable risk factors for obesity and mental health problems in children under the director of Dr. Qi Zhao, a professor of Preventive Medicine.

WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen, who has represented Tennessee’s 9th Congressional District for more than 19 years, held a press conference at his office in Washington this morning to announced that he will not be a candidate for any of the newly drawn Congressional seats carved out of the 9th. One, for $667,480 will go to Dr. Mario Halic for research on the structure and function of chromatin, from the National Institute of General Medical Services. One, for $1,686,167, is from the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases for research on early life viral infections’ impact on immune development trajectories under the direction of Dr. Octavio Ramilo.
WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-9) today announced that Christ Community Health Services will receive a grant of $6,832,768 from the Health Resources and Services Administration of the Department of Health and Human Services to operate its programs for its economically or medically vulnerable patients.
