MEMPHIS – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09), a senior member of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, today became a co-sponsor of H.R. 2, the Moving Forward Act, House Democrats' newly unveiled bill to invest more than $1.5 trillion in modern, sustainable infrastructure while creating millions of good-paying jobs, combatting the climate crisis and addressing disparities in urban, suburban and rural communities across Tennessee, the Mid-South and throughout the country.

MEMPHIS – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today announced that Shelby County will receive a $35,000 grant from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to support its ongoing air pollution monitoring program.
Congressman Cohen made the following statement:
"Air pollution can be a serious health hazard and fine particulate matter can do real damage to the lungs. I'm pleased this ongoing grant supports Shelby County's efforts to monitor its air quality and protect the health of our residents."

WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09), a senior member of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, today applauded the advance of the Investing in a New Vision for the Environment and Surface Transportation (INVEST) in America Act. The bill incorporates several of Congressman Cohen's priorities including his bill, H.R. 1400, the Horse Transportation Safety Act, in its entirety. It also incorporates many elements of his other bills including H.R. 1511, the Stop Underrides Act, H.R. 3959, the School Bus Safety Act and H.R. 3663, the Complete Streets Act.

MEMPHIS – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today announced that the University of Memphis will receive a grant of $482,080 from the U.S. Department of Agriculture's (USDA) National Institute of Food and Agriculture to study microplastics and their degradation and transport in agricultural soil and the interaction of hydrodynamics, chemistry and material sciences.

MEMPHIS – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today announced that Shelby County's Air Pollution Control Program will receive a $437,399 grant from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

WASHINGTON – With lead hazards lurking in about 3.6 million homes of families with young children nationwide, Congressmen Steve Cohen (TN-09) and David McKinley (WV-01) today introduced the Home Lead Safety Tax Credit Act – bipartisan legislation to help American families cover the cost of eliminating lead from their homes.

WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today announced that Shelby County will receive a $130,000 grant from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to support its ongoing compliance with the National Ambient Air Quality Standards by collecting data on fine particulate matter.

WASHINGTON—Today, Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) joined with Representative Alan Lowenthal (D-Calif.-47), Senator Tom Udall (D-N.M.), Representative Katherine Clark (D-Mass.-5), and Senator Jeff Merkley (D-Ore.) to introduce the Break Free From Plastic Pollution Act of 2020, legislation that would phase out unnecessary single-use plastic products, hold corporations accountable for wasteful products, reduce wasteful packaging, and reform our broken waste and recycling collection system.

WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09), a member of the Committee on Science, Space and Technology, today announced that the University of Memphis' Center for Earthquake Research and Information (CERI) will receive a $675,000 grant from the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS). The funding supports CERI's cooperative agreement with USGS in operating the Advanced National Seismic System.
