[WASHINGTON, D.C.] — Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09), Ranking Member of the House Judiciary Subcommittee on the Constitution and Civil Justice, today condemned President Trump's recent tweets challenging the license of NBC and other news networks and his comments attacking the freedom of the press during his meeting with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau in the Oval Office. During the meeting with the Prime Minister, President Trump said, "It is frankly disgusting the way the press is able to write whatever they want to write."

WASHINGTON – Today, U.S. Senators Brian Schatz (D-Hawai‘i) and Rand Paul (R-Ky.) and U.S. Representative Steve Cohen (D-Tenn.) introduced the Police Creating Accountability by Making Effective Recording Available (Police CAMERA) Act of 2017. This legislation would create a pilot grant program to assist state and local law enforcement agencies develop safe and effective body-worn camera programs that also protect civilians' privacy rights.

Washington, D.C. – Today, the U.S. House of Representatives passed a bipartisan amendment offered by Congressmen Tim Walberg (R-MI) and Steve Cohen (D-TN) that reins in the federal government's power to seize private property without due process. The amendment prohibits funding to implement the Department of Justice's recently announced expansion of civil forfeiture, which reversed a previous ban on the practice of adoptive seizures. Congressmen Keith Ellison (D-MN) and Tom McClintock (R-CA) also sponsored the bipartisan amendment.
