MEMPHIS – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today announced that the Shelby County Board of Education will receive a grant of $4,144,250 from the Department of Health and Human Services Office of Head Start for its early childhood programs.

MEMPHIS – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today announced that the University of Memphis will receive a grant of $1,334,467 for biomedical research from the National Institute of Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering.

MEMPHIS – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today announced that the City of Memphis will receive a grant of $183,963 from the Federal Emergency Management Agency's Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program – Covid-19 Supplemental for purchasing personal protective equipment (PPE) in response to the coronavirus pandemic. The funding is part of the $100 million authorized for that purpose by the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act that became law in late March.

WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09), a member of the House Science, Space and Technology Committee, today applauded the inclusion of his bill, the Artificial Intelligence (AI) Careers Act, in the Fiscal Year 2021 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA). This AI Careers Act aims to improve AI education and AI workforce development. The NDAA is set to come to the House Floor in the coming weeks.

WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09), a senior member of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, today applauded the inclusion of H.R. 1400, the Horse Transportation Safety Act, in the Moving Forward Act, that passed the House today. WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today announced major U.S. Department of Health and Human Services grants to the University of Tennessee Health Science Center (UTHSC) and to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. UTHSC will receive $318,302 from the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute for research on blood diseases. St. Jude will receive $2,277,711 from the National Cancer Institute for work on cancer causes and prevention.
