WASHINGTON -- Following President Trump's false assertion that he has "total" authority to "reopen the economy" and to order States to relax social distancing measures, House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerrold Nadler (D-NY) and Subcommittee on the Constitution, Civil Rights, and Civil Liberties Chairman Steve Cohen (D-TN) sent a letter to the Democratic Caucus outlining the president's actual legal and constitutional authority in this area.

MEMPHIS – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today announced that the University of Tennessee Health Science Center (UTHSC) will receive a $76,000 grant from the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism to conduct alcohol research.

Congressman Cohen made the following statement:

"I'm pleased that important research on alcohol and alcohol abuse continues unimpeded by the current pandemic at UTHSC. This grant will continue to keep scientists working in this important field of research."

MEMPHIS – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09), a senior member of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Subcommittee on Aviation, today announced $24,894,552 in Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act grants to four Shelby County Airports. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) will provide $24,687,552 to Memphis International Airport and grants of $69,000 each to General DeWitt Spain Airport in Memphis, the Charles W. Baker Airport south of Millington and the Millington-Memphis Airport in Millington.

MEMPHIS – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today announced that the University of Tennessee Health Science Center (UTHSC) will receive a $345,338 grant from the National Institute on Aging for research on data-driven identification of costly multi-morbidity groupings.

Congressman Cohen made the following statement:

"I'm pleased that our medical school in Memphis can continue to conduct research on aging even as we endure this serious pandemic. This funding will keep scientists in their labs and will help find answers from an analysis of data."

MEMPHIS – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today announced that the University of Tennessee Health Science Center has received a grant of $152,000 from the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke for clinical research into neurological disorders.

"I'm pleased that, in this time of crisis, our medical school researchers continue to work on critical projects unrelated to the pandemic. This funding keeps Memphis scientists working on valuable clinical research."

MEMPHIS – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today announced that the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services dispersed $1.3 billion in grants to community health centers authorized by the CARES Act. Three centers in Memphis – Christ Community Health Services ($2,073,815), Memphis Health Center Inc. ($1,038,170) and Tri-State Community Health Center ($559,070) –received funding. Tennessee centers statewide received $256,098,970.
